Zhejiang, with its long history and rich cultural relics, has entered into frequent cultural exchange with its surrounding areas, central plains and foreign countries since ancient time and positioned remarkably in Chinese history and world civilization. 《Cultural Relics of the East》is thus named because Zhejiang is located in the east of China and China stands towering in the east of the world. Its founding purpose is to research and discover substance and spiritual culture value of China (particularly the zone of Southeast China and Jiangsu, Zhejiang), and offer helpful reference to present society on aspects of history, science and art. Basing upon Zhejiang, it catches up with the whole country and faces the world. It has been 8 years and 8 editions since 1994’s preparation of founding, and then first publication of 1997. At present, it has become the sole periodical issued general academic journal of cultural relics and archaeological category in Zhejiang Province, published formally by publishing company. It functions not only as garden of Zhejiang archaeological and museological workers their own, but also as a bridge strengthening communication and contact with other academic institutions at home or abroad. It has risen to fairly high position in this field. In 2002, it changed into semiyearly and was planned to change into quarterly in 2004.
　　Contents of 《Cultural Relics of the East》 cover history, archaeology, museology, folklore, palaeoanthropology and paleontology etc. If changed into quarterly, it will set up columns including “historic forum”, “archaeological research”, “Wu and Yue culture”, “museological exploration”, “ceramics”, “arts and crafts”, “appreciation manual”, “coin additional journal”, “ancient architecture”, “Calligraphy and paintings”, “folk-custom sourcing”, “mankind tracing”, “fossil organism”, “celeb essays”, “literature talks”, “oversea views”, “scholar review”, “religion tales” and “historic remains” etc a dozen or so, about 200,000 characters every issue in form of 16-sect copy delicately binded and printed.
