¡¡¡¡When Zhejiang history developed to the period of Three Dynasties, Emperor Hou of Xia reigns his uncrowned son with Wu Area by the name of Yue. This is the begining of Yue State. 222 A.D., Qing State consolidates the territory and puts an end to Yue State. In nearly two thousand years' development from establishment till elimination, Yue people have created splendid Yue culture, which has deep influence on the development of Zhejiang later on. And its bronze culture with the bright features shone in the latter ages. Due to the demands of ploughing and warring, most bronze wares of Yue State are weapons and farm tools, differing Yue from cultural system of the Central Plain represented by bronze wares of ceremony tools and muscial instruments. And Yue weapons are highly reputed for the bronze swords, which of exquisite casting technique and beautiful appearance, combining practicability and appreciation. Doubtlessly, various unearthed or handed down Yue-king swords serve as best proof. And in the meanwhile, a great number of bronze farm tools are widely used in Yue State. In past years, unearthed tools have been of complete varieties and great quantity, in a whole set for purposes ranging from ploughing till harvesting. Beside, exterior veined hard pottery and original chinaware are also symbolic substance relics left in course of long-term production practices. For these cultural relics, you can find a fairly complete display basing on bronze wares in principal lay out of second floor of historic hall.
¡¡¡¡ Upon replacement of dynasties, the history slides to the late Tang Dynasty, a period when heros rise and wars break out frequently. Wuyue, one of the Five Dynasties & Ten States period sets up its capital in Hangzhou, and pushes the basic governing policy of ¡°Defencing the Border and Protecting Folks¡±to get safety somehow. Therefore, economy and culture of Wuyue State has got continual development. And then it becomes an economically prosperous and culturally blooming feudal isolated kingdom of Five Dynasties & Ten States. The history calls it ¡°Rich Qiantang prevails the Southeast¡±. Leaving profound historic accumulation for Zhejiang, this period becomes important for Zhejiang's history of development. Now, second floor of historic hall is thus laid out to give a summary exhibition on aspect of politics, economy, culture and religion.
¡¡¡¡Two Song Dynasties successive to Five Dynasties is a period when Zhejiang develops greatly. In period of Northern Song Dynasty, on basis of past development, Zhejiang has become most economically developed area, its agriculture, handiworks industry and foreign trade coming out top in the country. There is a saying of ¡°hundreds of rich and prosperous southeastners¡± at that time. Zhejiang rose to leading position of the Southeast. And then Song reign southward and settling its capital in Hangzhou, which has gradually become political, economic and cultural center of the country as ¡°First State of the Southeast¡± in Wuyue times. By then, Zhejiang has met its most developed and properous period. For this section of brilliant past, second floor of the historic Relics Hall concentrates on Buddhism relics unearthed and gathered from tower bodies and underground palaces of Jinhua Wanfo Tower, Ruian Huiguang Tower and Lishui Jade Lake Song Tower, intending to extend from this basic point to all aspects of cultural development of Zhejiang in Southern and Northern Song Dynasties. In addition, a huge picture drawn according to Zhang Zeduan's ¡¶Qingming Shanghe Paint¡·of Northern Song Dynasty which expresses prosperity of Song capital Lin'an shows off this exhibition forcefully.
