The summer of 1948 saw the arrival in the Hangzhou National Art School of the 85-year-old Huang Binhong, the great master of landscape painting. Living by West Lake, he devoted the last seven years of his life to painting, leaving behind fine works in large quantities.
　　Huang's residence is not a big courtyard, where stands a Western-style 2-storied building. In the front yard sites a white marble statue of Huang Binhong among flowers, trees and bamboos.
　　Following this will, Huang's family presented to the country 10,000-odd works, manuscripts, and relics, which are in the collection of the Zhejiang Museum. In 1957, his residence was turned into his memorial hall.
