¡¡¡¡The Zhejiang West Lake Gallery completed
in the autumn of 1999, is situated at the east side of the
Zhejiang Museum. It is where the National Art Academy---China's
first institution of its kind---used to be. It is a Gothic
building erected in the early 1930's on the initiative of
Lin Fengmian and Ai Qing. It has preserved the ideal of
several generations of Chinese artists: to systematize Chinese
fine arts, introduce Western fine arts, blend Chinese and
Western art, and produce the art of the times.
¡¡¡¡The gallery consists of a vestibule, salons, a reception
hall and four showrooms. In addition to high-grade domestic
and foreign art exhibitions, it has two special exhibition
halls¡ª¡ªHuang Binhong Gallery.
¡¡¡¡Equipped with advanced displaying facilities, the gallery
has been an institution devoted to the study and display
of art treasures and to academic exchanges and an introduction
to the up-to-date development in art.
