¡¡¡¡Wenlan Pavilion (Library of Literary Upsurge),
located at the west side of the museum, was a Qing Dynasty
library for keeping Siku Quanshu (Complete Library in Four
Treasuries).
¡¡¡¡The pavilion was first constructed in 1782 when Siku Quanshu
was completed. The first four copies were kept in the four
libraries in North China's four imperial residences respectively.
Later, three more copies were completed and kept in the
¡°three libraries in the Jiangnan region¡±. To date, it¡¯s
only Wenlan Pavilion in Jiangnan that has kept the only
complete copy, known as the ¡°treasure of Southeast China¡±.
¡¡¡¡Laid out in imitation of Tianyi Pavilion (a time-honored
library in Ningbo), Wenlan Pavilion is a 6-room house. Outwardly
a 2-storied structure, it is inwardly a 3-floor building.
In front of the pavilion there is a pond, at the center
of which stands an odd-shaped rockery, called Immortal Peak.
On the southeastern side of the pavilion is a pavilion for
a stone tablet inscribed with the Qing emperor Qianlong¡¯s
poem and his edict issuing Siku Quanshu. The present library
pavilion dates back to 1880.
