¡¡¡¡Ming & Qing Furniture Hall, now inside ancient construction area of Wenlan Pavilion, displays furniture of Jiangnan features colleted by this hall. Chinese ancient furniture manufacture encountered its heyday in Ming & Qing Dynasty. Subject to their different styles, the furniture can be divided in Ming-style furniture and Qing-style furniture. The former refers to a kind of furniture with specific style made in period of Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, of primitive and graceful pattern and civilized scholarly atmosphere. And the latter refers to quality hardwood furniture characterized by floweriness, luxury and diversity made after Yongzhen and Qianlong period. Qing-style furniture stresses ornamental in order to reach the result of magnificent diversity. The maker has employed all decorating methods for novelty, mostly used of which are carving and studded techniques. Items on display are of high appreciation value and practical value.
¡¡¡¡Bridal sedan chair: Ningbo bridal sedan chair of late Qing Dynasty till early Republic of China can be called as most luxurious in the world. Because it takes 8 people to shoulder, it is named as ¡°8 Carried Sedan¡± and another name of ¡°10-million Work-hour Sedan¡± because it needs nearly 10,000 work hours to finish it. Ningbo Sedan is woodcarving paint red and decorated with gold foil appliqu¨¦, by skills including round carving, embossment and through caving etc. On it, there are figures, phoenix, dragon, crane, lion and guava seeds. Therefore, Ningbo people call it ¡°Hundred-seed Sedan¡± In the middle section, the sedan is docorated with glass pictures, every picture telling a scene of opera story. It's made up of several hundred pieces of detachable figured sheets.
¡¡¡¡Bone wood Studded Bed: Bone Stone Studded Bed of late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, is called as ¡°Million Work-hour Bed¡± because it took nearly 1000 work hours to make. Bone wood studding is traditional process of Ningbo. This bed uses redwood as soleplate and cattle bones and yellow polar wood as embedding plates. Delicately made, this bed integrades carving and embedding into one, and therefore looks magnificent and noble. Right side before the bed is compartment cabinet to place clothes. And with a mirror on, one can make up there. And the cabinet left is a seating closestool, with a panel turned up and closestool placed inside. The entire bed is just like a small bedroom.
¡¡¡¡Rosewood Embossed Drawing Table: Rosewood Embossed Drawing Table of Ming Dynasty is made of nanmao painted black. Primitive and exquisite, it's made bearing the practicability of writing and drawing on mind. It has very typical features of Ming-style furniture.
¡¡¡¡Redwood Shelf Paint in Black and Gold: It's also called as ¡°Multi-treasure Case¡± and ¡°Hundred-Treasure Rack¡±which prevailed in Qing Dynasty. It stresses pattern diversity and the principle of utilizing limited space skillfully. Different types of rare wares and curio are dotted at radom on it. Upper part of this cabinet is cases of different design. And the back planks are drawed into landscape pictures. In the middle, there are two drawers and in the lower part, its book cabinet. This is a kind of ornamental cabinet popular among first class society of Qing Dynasty.
¡¡¡¡Shell Studded Round Table: Pearl luster layer of the shels is cut into designs to embed hills and water, flowers and birds and figures on the surface of wood ware in this technique. This shell studded round table can be titled as classical work of studded technique. Dense or sparse orderly, and of graceful and elegant colors, it has high appreciating value as well as practicability. So large a shell studded handed down from ancient times is very ware, qualified it for the name of elobrate work.
